Tom Sawyer!

When I was growing up my Dad would read to us every night. Now I don't remember the little stories he would read us, I remember the on going novels. He would read us "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" followed by "Huckleberry Finn" and "Charlotte's Web".

I don't remember "Charlotte's Web" as well but I really remember Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. Every night we would sit in the family room while my Dad would make the characters come alive by acting each character out. I enjoyed listening to him read and would look forward to it.

I decided that I wanted to carry that tradition on to my kids. So with much searching I was able to purchase the exact set my Dad had when we were younger which happens to be a beautiful set filled with great illustrations at the beginning of each chapter.

We started this week and I hope that my kids will enjoy it as much as I did when I was younger. I want to pass on what my dad passed on to me and hopefully build the same memories that I enjoyed as a child.

P.S. the picture above is not the same book as I mentioned in my post.

That's a tradition I will never forget! I too want to carry it on but couldn't find the set - where did you get it from?

That is so cool!
I've just started reading Kimber some of my favorite illustrated chapter books, too. She really like Martin's Mice, a book about a cat that keeps mice as pets.

That is so neat. I love carrying on family traditions from my parents too. However, that just reminded me of a sleepover I had once and we couldn't calm down so my mom came in and read "little House on the Prairie" But not acting in with a "Bueller, Bueller" tone! Not quite the same thing, but it made me chuckle nonetheless.

Awesome memories, I'm sure your kids will love! Those are some of Tyson most treasured memories. Thanks for sharing! (I would have never known).

What a sweet tradition to pass on to your kids. That is so neat that you could find the same set. It would be cool if you got the same set for each of your boys to give to them when they have kids of their own.

Do you girls remember your Dad's rendition of Jonah and the Whale?? Another memorable storytime with Dad!! So happy that you are caring on those traditions. Dad and I enjoyed those times as much as you kids did!!

We had a similiar tradition in our house. I remember my mom reading "call of the wild" to us among other stories. I love reading and I really believe that part of that love came from my mom reading to us so much as children. Good job!
